PHOTOS: Promo Only Summer Sessions/DJ Times Convention 2012 RECAP
This past week I got to spend time in Atlantic City for the Promo Only Summer Sessions and DJ Times Convention. It was great to connect with all the DJs, Artists, and Record label people. On the first day of the convention (August 13) it was filled with several panels and discussions. I was a speaker on the Producer panel along with The Discofries, Tommie Sunshine, John De Sohn, DJ Flipside from The JumpSmokers, Eric Velez, Rod Carillo, and Jeff D from Promo Only.
Later that evening, I got to DJ at The Harrah’s Pool for the Promo Only Cocktail Opening Party along with Krewella, Tommie Sunshine, The Discofries, DJ Serafin, John de Sohn, Jes, Erik Velez and the KTU All-stars Raphael Valentino, Tommy Nappi, and DJ Prime.
After Harrah’s a couple of us headed over to the Borgata at MIXX for the S.K.A.M. artist Showcase with Joe Maz, Lil Jon, DJ Vice, and DJ Five. DJ Vice had the crowd not only jumping but DANCING! BREAKDANCING! Right after his set while DJ Five was in the mix, he got on the mic at 4am and started a Breakdance circle where RJ from the dance crew The Jabbawockeez was jamming along with DJ Vice himself and even DJ Serafin got on the floor!
Tuesday was the Promo Only Industry awards luncheon which I was nominated for a 3rd year in a row for Best Radio Mixshow DJ. After winning the last 2 years, the title this year went to my good friend and bad ass DJ from Chicago – DJ Flipside of B96 and The Jumpsmokers. He totally deserves the award! Much props to him!
Tuesday night was the Promo Only Annual Showcase which in years past included artists before the blew up huge like Lady Gaga, Mike Posner, Pitbull, and more. This year featured a mix of new artists including Kat Graham, Outasight, Eva Simons, Jes and others including legends like Shannon, Taylor Dayne, and Sean Paul.
The next day I got to check out the actual DJ Times Expo. With just about every Vendor and Manufacturer for DJing present, I got to see some really cool DJ Gear. In particular I got to check out the Pioneer XDJ-Aero which is an all-in-one DJ Controller/Mixer that is the first WIFI integrated console. I’ll have a Video review for it later so stay tuned!
Overall, my Atlantic City experience was a great one. If you are an upcoming DJ/Artist/Producer I would definitely recommend coming to this convention just for the mere fact that you actually get to “Network” and have one on one talks with people unlike the Winter Music Conference in Miami.
