Check out this Kelly Clarkson Remix I did with my good friend DJ Reidiculous. Stay tuned for more collabos with Reidiculous.
I just got back from a very successful business trip to New York City. Right after DJing the Texans/Raiders game I took a flight into Newark International Airport. I had been up since 6am with only 2 hours of sleep the night before but I still managed to make my flight.
Once I got to Newark, I headed into the city and picked up Mo Bounce from Z100 and decided to eat at the legendary Wo Hop on Mott Street in Chinatown. Wo Hop has been open since 1938 and has been serving Millions of people over the years. If you are looking for ambiance or authentic Chinese, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for fast service, open 24 hours, and cheap eats, this is THE PLACE! Check out the video
The next day, I headed over to visit my radio station that I work for in NYC – 103.5 KTU. It was good seeing everyone like my Program Director Rob Miller, Bartel, Diane Prior, Hollywood Hamilton, Goumba Johnny, Producer Ant, Wendy Wild, and Jagger. I was sitting in the office when the news broke out that one of the members of the Backstreet Boys Brian Littrell caught the H1N1 virus (Swine Flu). It wasn’t public knowledge yet and they were scheduled to perform the next day for a private concert at the PC Richard & Son Theater located in the same building of KTU and Z100 in Tribeca.
After meeting with the KTU folks, I decided to walk over and grab a NY Sicilian Pizza slice and Chicken Broccoli slice. You can’t come to NY and NOT have Pizza. After that, I was with Z100’s Mo Bounce (formerly the night show jock at Houston’s Hot 95.7) and we headed to the Z100 studios located conveniently in the same building as KTU. I started my New York City radio career at Z100 in 1996 back when they were located in the swamps of Secaucus, NJ. It was nice to see some friendly old faces like Skeery Jones and Sharon Dastur as well as some new faces like JJ. I couldn’t have picked a better day or time to come to NY because later that night, Mariah Carey would be performing at the PC Richard & Son Theater located directly below the stations. KTU, Z100, Power 105, Lite FM, Q102, I Heart Radio, Clearchannel is all located in the ATT building in Tribeca and they built this really cool theater that holds about 200 people where they do private concerts for their listners. I would be invited to attend the show later that evening. More about the show later.
After my radio visit to KTU and Z100, I headed up to visit the label I am signed to – Ultra Records. Ultra Records is the #1 Electronic Dance Music Label in America home to the world’s biggest DJs and artists like Tiesto, Armin Van Buren, and ME – The Riddler! 🙂 I got to meet from France producer Sandy Vee. Sandy Vee is one of the main writers/producers for David Guetta’s One Love Album.
Big shout outs to Patrick Moxey, David Waxman, Phil Nieves, Melissa Sabo, Elliott Walker, and Jason Kilgore over at Ultra Records. Be on the lookout for my next couple of Ultra Releases soon. My first one will be a Digital Release on iTunes featuring songs that I will be hand picking from the Ultra Catalog. I will also be doing a Monthly special Youtube Video mix for the Ultra Youtube channel. Finally, my next Commercial CD release will be coming out possibly first quarter of 2010. I’m very excited about working with Ultra Records again.
After my visit to Ultra Records, it was now time to head uptown to Sony/BMG at the infamous 550 Madison building. I was heading up to visit Randy Reyes aka DJ Raize from Jive Records – Home to Britney, Jordin Sparks, Chris Brown, and more. It was good to see the fine folks up there at Sony/Jive and even better to get some projects. You’ll be hearing about them more soon.
That wrapped up day one of my NYC trip but now it was time to see Mariah Carey in concert.
I got back to the ATT Building where the PC Richard & Son theater was located. The line was wrapped around the building with fans waiting to get inside. Some of them were waiting in line since 2pm. Thanks to KTU’s Bartel, I got VIP access and skipped the line. Once inside, I was with several people that I knew from Clearchannel (wassup Karen Vega). The show was supposed to start at 8pm but in true diva fashion, Mariah didn’t start the show til after 8:30pm. DJ Suss One from Power 105 was spinning to the crowd before the show. Once the curtains were drawn up and the show started the crowd went nuts and here she was – Mariah Carey. What is great about the venue is that it is small and intimate. There were about 200 people but for the most part you could see her very clear. The last time I saw Mariah was when I DJed for her Glitter Record Release Party at the Hudson Hotel. She started off the show with Obsessed from her new album. However, after every song, she would stop and talk to the crowd being the Diva she is. Everytime she would stop, her stylist and makeup artist would come up, powder her up, fix her outfit. At one point, she was having such difficulty with her ear piece that she stopped in the middle of singing “Always be my baby”. Once they got everything working, she resang the song all over again. She sang five songs total. I don’t care what anybody says – Mariah is special. She definitely wins DIVA of our time. I don’t think there is anyone like her.
The rest of my trip consisted of visits with Next Plateau Records, Robbins Records, and Sirius-XM Satellite Radio.
I was having lunch at Bubbies in Tribeca when I noticed a film crew inside. Little did I know the cast of Gossip Girl was sitting next to my table. Actor Chace Crawford was there along with some other cast members. The Paparazzi was waiting for them to come out of the restaurant.
After lunch, off to Sirius – XM studios to visit BPM’s Geronimo. Everytime, I visit Sirius I get a kick out of seeing Howard Stern’s studio.
That pretty much ended my trip to New York. It’s amazing how many people you run into just walking around the city. I ran into so many old friends. There is nothing like New York City! I can’t wait to be back and DJ which will be soon!
