Last month, I had the great pleasure of flying out to DJ at this year’s Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. Thanks to Utah’s DJ Jefferey B and Vooray for flying me out to their Mansion Party event.
It was my very first time flying out to Salt Lake City, UT. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect really. First thing that comes to mind is I’m heading into Mormon Country. I’m sure everyone has had their fair share of stereotypical comments about Utah. What I was in store for was not what I expected – pleasantly.
Upon landing to Salt Lake City, Immediately I asked for the quick tour of Salt Lake City. We drove around downtown, showed me some of the major sites like the Mormon Headquarters, Mormon Temple, and where the Utah Jazz plays. The City itself is beautiful being surrounded by those Mountains.
If you are ever in Salt Lake City and want a great place to eat, be sure to go to Rodizio Grill at the Trolley Square Mall. It’s one of the best Brazilian Rodizio style restaurants I’ve been to.
After Lunch, we left Salt Lake City and headed for Park City – Home of the Sundance Film Festival. It had been snowing 3 days straight so the skiing was amazing. I can see why they say Park City is one of the best Skiing in the world. Park City with an elevation of 10,000 feet had me a little sick with the altitude. I literally lost my breath just walking up stairs. However, going up and down Main street was worth it. So many people and Paparazzi walking up and down the street. As for celebrity sightings, I’m not a real big Celebrity seeker so I wouldn’t know who was a celebrity or not. I can tell you that this year, I was told there were more Reality Stars at this year’s Sundance than actual A-list Actors.
The night I was spinning Saturday night! There was so many parties and DJs also in town. Grammy-Nominated DJ/Producer Dave Aude, JJ Flores, Steve Aoki, all spun at parties the same night I was to DJ. However, being that most of the parties were invites only or with a cover of $50 and up, I was excited to hear that they sold out their pre-sale tickets for my event sponsored by Clothing company Vooray.
The Vooray Mansion Party was actually in Deer Valley, Utah which is even further up past Park City. This Mansion was in a gated community and was decked out like a Concert venue. I was so out of breath and dehydrated when I got there. I felt like an 80 year old man getting ready to DJ for 300 people. However, Once I got to the Mansion and saw the crowd, I got my legs back and was ready to Rock! They had some bands open up and the crowd along with the open bar was already lit like Christmas trees when I got there.
One of the things I noticed right away, was they loved the Electro and Progressive sound. They liked a lot of Energy on the Dancefloor! I Played some tracks from Tommie Sunshine, AC Slater, Crookers, Steve Aoki, and some other Fidget House/Electro tracks. Obviously, the more familiar tracks from David Guetta and others did very well as well. My set lasted about 2 hours but the party continued at the Mansion til 8am in the Morning. So much for Mormons that don’t know how to Party! They out partied me!

Now, you are probably wondering, If I had a chance to see some movies at Sundance since it is a Film Festival. Well, I had tickets to a showing the following day at 9am! However, considering my friends were all crashed out, I didn’t get to make it. There’s always Next year! Overall, I had A BLAST! People in Utah Really know how to Party – or at least at Sundance! Everyone was so very friendly and nice! I would love to come back! Again, Big thanks to Vooray and DJ Jeffery B for bringing me down to Utah! Hope to be back again soon! Be sure to check out Jeffrey B and his radio shows on Utah’s VFX!
