Check out this Kelly Clarkson Remix I did with my good friend DJ Reidiculous. Stay tuned for more collabos with Reidiculous.
I just returned from an Amazing trip to Manila, Philippines. The last time I DJ’ed there was 3 years ago and a lot has changed since. There has been tremendous Financial growth in all of Asia and it was really evident as I got to see a lot of the city. Brand new skyscrapers, shopping centers, in the Makati and Fort Bonifacio sectors were visibly seen. The club I was to spin at Republiq, just recently opened inside Resortworld which consists of a Casino, Newport Mall, Maxim and Marriott Hotels, and Theaters. Located in Pasay City, Resortworld is Manila’s Vegas strip.
I landed Wednesday night and decided to check out Republiq. I get to the club at 1am and it was packed. I was told that Republiq doesn’t close until 6-7am Wed, Friday, Saturdays. The place was a lot bigger than the pictures that I had seen. It even features private Karaoke rooms that can hold 10-15 people. The crowd was mixed with a lot of Foreigners and locals with people from Australia, Brazil, U.S., Russia, India, Korea, to name a few. You wouldn’t even think you were in the Philippines if you were inside the club. Just the week before the club had Laidback Luke and DJ Vice spin there. The club was truly committed to bringing “Vegas” style entertainment.
The Next day, I decided to do some shopping at Greenbelt Mall. From Louis Vuitton to Nike, this place had it all. Since I was at the Nike Store, I had to pick up my Limited Edition Manny Pacquiao Kicks.
Later that evening, I did a radio interview at Magic 89.9 Boys Night Out with DJ’s Tony Toni, Slick Rick, and Sam YG is one of the most listened to programs on the station and probably Manila’s only Shock Jocks. When you listen to their show it makes you wonder how they get away with so much with the different topics. During my interview we talked about How I got my name “The Riddler” to the tracks I have been producing/remixing.
Towards the end of the interview they had a game called “Porno or Combo” It was where they would bust out a title and I had to decide whether it was the name of a Porno or a Rock Band. The last person to play was DJ StoneRokk and he won an iPod Mini. After getting 5 answers right, I found out that I had won a Samsung Microwave Oven! I actually WON!
The Next night was the big night at Republiq. Prior to the gig, I was told that all of the VIP sections were sold out with a waiting list of over 30 people. It was a packed house full of Celebrities, Models, Senator, a Mayor, and many Foreigners vacationing for the Holidays. No pressure right? I got to meet some really nice people so far on this trip including Singer/Songwriter/Actress Karylle, and Mia from Magic 89.9.
It was now Showtime! The DJ Booth Stage was at the center of the club with an Intense Video Wall Back drop. I started my set with My Remix I did with DJ Vice – Pink “Raise Your Glass” and did a Shot with the crowd. Ok it was only a Club Soda Shot (Since I don’t drink anymore) but the crowd did one with me anyways. The energy that night was ridiculous. It was one of those nights that no mattered what I played the crowd was totally digging. I’ve been DJing quite a long time but it’s always special to spin in the homeland where my family is from. Being a Filipino American, it brought so much emotion to be able to make the crowd happy and keep them dancing. I lost track of time and next thing I knew it was 4:30 in the AM. What an incredible high!
I want to give a big thank you to Republiq, Styles Entertainment, Status Magazine, Magic 89.9, Mia, Boys Night Out DJ’s Tony Toni, Slick Rick, Sam YG, Karylle, The Fans that came out to Republiq, and especially Johnnyverse for making my trip the best way to end 2010! If you ever plan on going to the Philippines be sure to check out Republiq and any of Styles Entertainment’s events. Mabuhay!
